We transfer titles into your name if you buy a vehicle or boat from a private person. If you buy it from a licensed dealer, the dealer will have to transfer the title.

Who has to come to the tag agency to transfer a title? How does the title need to be filled out?

Only the buyer will have to come. Before you buy a vehicle, make sure the title has no liens and is properly filled out. Click here to see a properly filled out title. Go through this checklist before buying the car:

• Seller signed title, entered correct mileage (cars older than 10 years are exempt from mileage disclosure) and wrote your name as buyer and wrote correct price as selling price.

• They are no unsatisfied liens on the title

• The VIN number on the title corresponds to the actual VIN number on the car

• If there is a space for notarization on the title (certain states), the sale has to be notarized

• If there is no space to write the selling price on the title you need a bill of sale which you can download here.

• To get a tag you need Florida insurance which you can get at our agency at the very best price.

All not properly filled out titles will be rejected by the tag agency.

How much money should I bring? Remember, we take cash, cashiers checks and money orders only.

Transfer fees:    $ 44.75

Sales Tax:       For residents of Miami Dade County: 7% for the first $ 5,000, 6% thereafter; residents of all other counties are taxed at their county rate.

Tag Transfer:    If you have a valid tag: $ 8.60, if you need a new tag and registration approx. $ 50 for registration and $ 100 initial state fee for the plate.

What if I have a title from another state/country?

If your title is from out-of-state, we have to inspect your car. If it comes from another country it has to be inspected by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The total transfer cost of an title from another state is approximately $ 52 including the VIN inspection. If you cannot bring the car to us you can have a police officer of any state or a Florida notary public certify the VIN number on form 82040 which you can download here.

I bought a car from an out-of-state dealer. He gave me the title or the Manufacturers Certificate of Origin. Can you help me?

Yes, bring all the documents including the bill of sale and the car to our office. If the out-of-state dealer did not collect sales tax, you will have to pay it to us. If the tax collected was less than the Florida tax (7%/6%), you have to pay the difference.
